Hurricane Sandy in Waterford---- October 29, 2012

Hurricane Sandy arrived exactly one year after the October Snow Storm of 2011 that dumped a few feet of wet snow on Connecticut, knocking out power and canceling Halloween.  Sandy came in and promised to do the same, but it was OH SO MUCH WORSE!
New York, New Jersey , Pennsylvania and Connecticut shoreline communities were destroyed by the tidal surge, full moon high tides and strong winds.
Our Beach House was surrounded by water from Long Island Sound.  We heeded the states warning after some wavering, and evacuated to South Windsor to wait out the worst of the storm. Miraculously, the house was unharmed.  The sea water had not entered the first floor, just the basement.  The sump pumps were running around the clock, thanks to our neighbor who started up our generator to power them, and kept the water pumping out  as fast as it flowed in.
