The "Giant" Travelers Umbrella

Yesterday Aliza and I went into Hartford for a new kind of adventure.
We drive along the "city skyline" on our way to and from Aliza's house to our house on our weekly commutes.  We love to point it out as we go by on the bridge.
Recently Aliza began to ask if she could go there. "Can we go to the "city"?  We usually say, "no not today".
Today as we drove over the bridge and pointed out the shining skyline she asked if we could go there and I said YES!
We stopped and bought Donuts for Donwell to share with Pop, as we often do, and then headed to my house for breakfast.
We decided that after breakfast we would have a new kind of adventure. We were going to the "CITY."

It was a beautiful day to explore in the city.  The hustle and bustle of cars and buses going by was, on occasion, a bit overwhelming and loud but Aliza loved the city! There was so much going on- people scurrying to their jobs, traffic rushing by, construction work all around  and colorful quiet in the city gardens.
She marveled at the height of the buildings and touched them as she looked "way,way up".
She climbed and explored the monuments and plaza's.  Later we walked over to Bushnell Park.
We were happy for some shade, it was getting pretty HOT!  In Bushnell Park we found a wonderful play scape just perfect for climbing and jumping.  The BEST part of the park was the Bushnell Carousel.
It's a beautifully maintained carousel built in 1875.  We bought five tickets and rode four different horses  for the next 30 minutes.
Happy and exhausted we arrived back at my house and had a big lunch and talked about all that we had just seen and done.  After lunch she happily climbed up the stairs to her room and took a very long nap.

I will love remembering her face and sharing her joy as she looked up and touched the buildings in the "city" that she has admired for so long.  This fall and winter I am planning visits to the new Science Center with her and begin a Holiday tradition with her -of attending the Nutcracker  Ballet at the Bushnell Theater for our first of many shows.
